The Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate programmes at 45+ Central Universities, 30+ State Universities, 30+ Deemed Universities and 100+ Private Universities — making it the largest UG entrance test in India after JEE.
Introduced in 2022, CUET UG replaced the individual entrance tests of Delhi University, BHU, JNU, JMI, AMU and other central universities. CUET UG 2026 is expected to register over 14 lakh candidates competing for ~1.5 lakh undergraduate seats across India.
The exam has four sections: Section IA (13 Languages), Section IB (20 Languages), Section II (27 Domain Subjects), and Section III (General Test). Candidates choose subjects based on the eligibility of the UG course they want to apply for.

CUET UG 2026 is conducted in CBT (Computer-Based Test) mode in 13 Indian languages. Each subject paper is 45–60 minutes (depending on the subject). Candidates can choose up to 6 subjects (typically: 1 language + 4 domain subjects + General Test).

Section IA & IB — Languages
Reading Comprehension (Factual, Literary, Narrative passages), Verbal Ability, Vocabulary (Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms), Rearranging the parts, Choosing the correct word, Literary Aptitude. Section IA covers 13 commonly used Indian languages including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Assamese. Section IB has 20 less common languages including French, German, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, etc.
Section II — Domain Subjects (27 options)
27 domain subjects available: Accountancy, Agriculture, Anthropology, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering Graphics, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, Geography, Hindi (Major), History, Home Science, Knowledge Tradition & Practices of India, Legal Studies, Mass Media/Communication, Mathematics, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, Sociology, Teaching Aptitude, Engineering. Syllabus is based on Class 12 NCERT.
Section III — General Test
General Knowledge (Static + Current Affairs of last 1 year), Current Affairs (national, international, sports, awards), General Mental Ability (Reasoning), Numerical Ability (Class 8 level Maths — Arithmetic, Percentage, Profit & Loss), Quantitative Reasoning, Logical & Analytical Reasoning. General Test is required for many programmes — BBA, BMS, Liberal Arts, etc.

Preparation Tips & Strategy
1. Understand Your Target University Cut-off Pattern Early
CUET cut-offs are released course-wise by each university (DU, JNU, BHU all have separate cut-offs). Identify your top 3–5 target courses + universities. Read their previous years' cut-off and required subject combinations. This determines which subjects you must focus on.
2. NCERT Class 11–12 is Your Bible for Domain Subjects
CUET domain subject syllabus is strictly Class 12 NCERT. Read NCERTs cover-to-cover. About 80% of questions come directly from NCERT lines or applications of NCERT concepts. After NCERT, supplement with one reference book for problem variety.
3. Speed Practice — 40 Questions in 45 Minutes
Each domain section has 50 questions (attempt 40) in 45–60 min — 60–75 sec per question. This is faster than school exam pace. Daily timed practice — 1 sectional mock per subject every day for 60 days. Track your accuracy and adjust attempt strategy.
4. General Test — Many Underestimate It
General Test (250 marks) is required for popular programmes like BBA, B.Voc, Liberal Arts at major universities. Many candidates focus only on domain subjects and ignore GT. A strong GT score can boost your overall percentile significantly. Cover GK, basic reasoning, Class 8 Maths.
5. Take 25+ Subject-Wise Mocks in Last 60 Days
NTA releases sample papers + previous year papers on its website. Solve 25+ mocks per chosen subject. Maintain a mistake log — every wrong answer with the correct concept noted. Revise the log every 5 days. Aim for 90% accuracy in PYQs before exam.
