How is 8th Pay Commission salary calculated?

The 8th Pay Commission salary is calculated by multiplying the existing 7th CPC basic pay by the fitment factor. For example, an employee at Level 7 with a 7th CPC basic of ₹44,900 at a fitment factor of 2.86 will have a new basic pay of ₹1,28,414. HRA, DA, and Transport Allowance are then computed on this new basic. Across most pay levels this works out to a 20–35% increase in gross monthly salary over the existing 7th CPC structure, depending on the fitment factor and city tier.

Historical fitment factors: 6th CPC ≈ 1.86×, 7th CPC = 2.57×. Government employee unions have advocated for 8th CPC fitment in the range 2.86×–3.68×.
