November 15 is Jharkhand Foundation Day — the state was carved out of Bihar on this date in 2000. The date was chosen to honour Birsa Munda, Jharkhand's greatest hero, who was born on November 15, 1875. It is one of the most tested dates in JPSC exams.
The Santhal Hul (1855) was a massive tribal uprising led by Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu against British land policies, exploitative moneylenders, and zamindars in the Santhal Parganas (now Jharkhand/West Bengal region). It was the first major tribal rebellion on such a scale and directly led to the British creating a separate Santhal Parganas district with special protection for tribal lands.
Jharkhand is India's mineral treasury: Jharia Coalfields (largest coal reserves in India, Dhanbad), Singhbhum (copper and iron ore), Koderma (largest mica producer in the world), Jadugoda (uranium mining — only operational uranium mine in India), and chromite (Sukinda). This mineral wealth makes Jharkhand central to India's industrial economy.
