CTET Mock Test Free 2026 — Paper 1 & Paper 2 Pattern, Syllabus & Online Practice

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level teacher eligibility examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is the gateway for candidates who aspire to teach in central government schools across the country, including Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), Central Tibetan Schools, and Army Public Schools.

CTET is held in two papers: Paper 1 qualifies candidates to teach Classes 1 to 5 (Primary Level), while Paper 2 qualifies candidates to teach Classes 6 to 8 (Upper Primary Level). Candidates who wish to teach both levels can appear in both papers simultaneously. Since 2021, CBSE has made CTET qualification valid for a lifetime — a major update that has made this certificate extremely valuable. There is also no restriction on the number of attempts, allowing candidates to appear repeatedly to improve their score.

CTET Exam Pattern 2026

Both papers follow a uniform pattern of 150 MCQ-type questions for 150 marks with a duration of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). Each correct answer carries 1 mark. There is no negative marking, so it is advisable to attempt all questions.

Paper 1 — Classes 1 to 5 (Primary Level)

Paper 1 — Primary Level (Classes 1–5)

• Senior Secondary (Class 12) with at least 50% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed / D.Ed / JBT), OR
• Senior Secondary with at least 45% marks and passed 2-year D.El.Ed in accordance with NCTE norms 2002, OR
• Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), OR

• Graduation degree with at least 50% marks AND passed or appearing in 2-year B.Ed programme, OR

Child Development & Pedagogy (30 Marks)

How to Prepare for CTET 2026

1. Master Child Development & Pedagogy first. This section appears in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 and is often decisive. Focus on Piaget's cognitive stages, Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development, Kohlberg's moral development, and inclusive education. Pedagogy questions test conceptual understanding, not rote learning.
2. Choose your Language I and II wisely. Most Hindi-belt aspirants opt Hindi as Language I and English or Sanskrit as Language II. Practise comprehension passages regularly and revise grammar rules — both Hindi vyakaran and English grammar are important.
3. Focus on subject-specific pedagogy (Paper 2). CTET does not just test content knowledge — it tests how you teach. Each subject section has 10–15 marks purely on pedagogical issues. Study NCERT textbooks (Classes 6–8) for content and NCERT teacher manuals for pedagogy.
4. Study NCERT textbooks religiously. For Paper 1, go through NCERT Class 1–5 books for Maths and EVS. For Paper 2, study NCERT Class 6–8 books for your chosen subject. Most factual questions are directly sourced from these books.
