Chhattisgarh was formed on November 1, 2000 as the 26th state of India, carved out of Madhya Pradesh. Raipur is the state capital. The state was created to give better governance and development to the tribal-dominated Chhattisgarh region that had been underserved as part of the large MP state.
Bastar Dussehra is the world's longest Dussehra festival — spanning 75 days. Unlike elsewhere in India, it does not involve burning Ravana's effigy. It centres on Danteshwari goddess (the presiding deity of Bastar) and involves elaborate tribal rituals, chariot processions, and tribal community celebrations. It represents CG's distinct tribal culture.
21–40 years for General category — among the most liberal age limits in India. SC/ST/OBC get additional relaxation per CG government norms. This gives CG aspirants significantly more preparation time than states with lower upper age limits.
Chhattisgarh cultivates over 20,000 varieties of paddy (rice) and contributes significantly to India's central food grain pool. The Chhattisgarh plains (Chhattisgarh Maidan) have fertile alluvial soil and adequate rainfall. Indigenous varieties like Dubraj and Jeera rice are famous for their aromatic quality and command premium prices in markets.
CGPSC Prelims Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying — candidates must score minimum 33 out of 100 to be considered for Mains eligibility. CSAT tests comprehension, logical reasoning, analytical ability, and basic numeracy. Only GS Paper I marks count for Prelims merit ranking.
